Fans of the Netflix show will recognize the coat so synonymous with Anthony Mackie's Kovacs. A quick Google search reveals that many modern manufacturers offer popular recreations of the signature look. The real McCoy, however, is the Trailmaster Panther 2.0 offered by ultra-luxe designer Belstaff, which retails for $1,795 USD (see pic below).
For Altered Carbon purposes, however, gone is the cheerful signature Belstaff check cotton lining--it's been dyed dark instead. The button snaps, too, have been darkened. There's no obvious Belstaff logo on the sleeve or elsewhere. The standard chain-link that functionally adorns the interior has been altered to reflect an edgier vibe perfect for this character and production. In other words, these jackets are a highly collectible version 3.0.
Vancouver Collectibles was thrilled to acquire three authentic Altered Carbon production-used jackets at recent auction. They are custom versions of the Panther 2.0. Not. too. shabby.
It's clear that talented costume designer Ann Foley left absolutely no detail to chance. In an interview with Andrew Liptak, she explains, "TV is turning into something else altogether. I feel like this is where the interesting content is now: you're seeing feature-level-film costumes, production design, and visual effects on television. I am noticing that a lot of shows are moving toward building more costumes and creating these really cool universes, and very specific looks to their shows...They're creating these beautiful costumes and these amazing new worlds, and it's really fun to watch." We couldn't agree more!
