Like many of you, we thoroughly enjoyed the remake of Archie Comics' Sabrina Spellman, which came to us in the form of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix. The show's lavish set design and interior decor, brought to life by production designer Lisa Soper, perfectly complements the darkly entertaining storytelling. According to Soper, "We wanted to create an environment that hasn't been seen before but feels natural, like 'oh, this is what you do when you live in Greendale, and you're a witch."

Designer Anita Shriver recognizes the look's appeal, describing it as "all-encompassing spooky chic vintage coven cabal," offering tips on how to "Get the Look: The 'Sabrina' Reboot's Granny Chic-Gone-Spooky Style." In her article "10 magical ways to decorate your room like Sabrina Spellman," Kimberley Spinney recommends using books as a decorative agent of transformation.
Have some fun with books, she says, "Sabrina has hers in stacks near her bench. If you notice, she has different shapes and sizes of books stacked, which turn the books into their own sort of focal point."
The Sabrina set was indeed full of wonderful prop books. To the uninitiated, a prop book is actually a regular book rebound or re-covered to match a particular production's decorative vibe. Sometimes this means that the full cover is changed but more often than not only the spine is embellished as that's the only part you'd see if the books were lining a shelf or stacked in a pile.
Vancouver Collectibles was thrilled to score a number of set-used occult prop books from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina at recent auction.
Cathleen Perez Brenycz noted that the auction included "several boxes of prop burnt books, made to appear authentic," explaining, "prop occult books: from velvet casings to runic writings, these tomes will bring an authentic, supernatural feel." We agree with Brencyz that "this is the perfect opportunity to cultivate a witchy Bookstagram aesthetic!"
